DAILY PROPHET: 1 NOV 1979 [2 November 2008 @ 10:16pm] scotopianpc BATS OWNER DEAD MAINZ (DP) - Prominent businessman Patrick Fitzpatrick "P.F." Spudmore died yesterday in an apparent boating accident just outside Mainz, Germany. He was 42. Best-known for his ownership of the Black Forest Broom Company and the Ballycastle Bats, among other diverse holdings, Spudmore had in recent years become an increasingly influential member of the international wizarding business scene. Spudmore was aboard the yacht of Humbert Herschlag, owner of Germany's top racing broom manufacturers, Schnellerstange, to celebrate the recent merger of their companies, when he apparently took a tragic topple from the boat after excusing himself to answer the call of nature. Upon noticing his prolonged absence, his friends swiftly contacted German authorities, who recovered his body early this morning. Spudmore is survived by his mother, 68, and his wife, Zaida Spudmore nee Zabini, 18.

I thank you all for your selflessness in volunteering. I would like to reiterate that this mission will be very dangerous. I know you have become used to danger as a part of your daily lives. However, I feel it bears mentioning that on this particular mission, lives may be lost. I will, of course, completely understand if, and think no less of, anyone who wishes to retract their offer. As I have stated, my good friend Mr Doge, as well as Mr Podmore, have volunteered to serve as bait of sorts. They will be discussing Elphias' upcoming move within the confines of the Ministry, which we know Lord Voldemort's spies have infiltrated. We expect Voldemort's followers to strike Thursday evening, when they believe Elphias will be moving, as his defenses will ostensibly not yet be erected. Of course, they will be in for quite the surprise! In my previous correspondence I had mentioned two distinct groups for this job. The first group, with the more manifestly offensive task, will consist of Caradoc Dearborn, James Potter, Sirius Black, and Benjamin Fenwick. Dorcas Meadowes, Lily Evans, and Elphias himself will comprise the second, which is to set up the various wards and barriers. DAILY PROPHET: 16 SEPTEMBER 1979 [16 September 2008 @ 5:41pm] scotopianpc MORE WEST END DEATHS ADD TO MYSTERY LONDON (DP) - Two more bodies were found in London's West End Monday by Muggle police, the Ministry of Magic reported this morning. Both of the victims were Muggles - one murdered Sunday evening, the other dead several weeks, according to forensic experts at the Ministry. Both had had their throats slashed. "The fact is, we just don't know," one Ministry official, who asked not to be named, responded when asked whether the killings were the work of Death Eaters. "We can't rule out the idea that these murders aren't even involved at all." All told, there have been eleven murders in London's West End since 2 June, and the only thing linking the victims is that they are all Muggles. The Daily Prophet, in an interview with senior Department of Magical Law Enforcement official Bartemius Crouch earlier this week, asked whether there were any new leads in the cases. He said that with the capture of Death Eater Leon Avery, the department had hoped to break the case open, but that thus far nothing had come of Avery's capture. "We're doing all we can," Crouch said. "We're not trying to keep the public in the dark. As soon as we can make any definite conclusions, we will report them to the press."

Elphias and Mr Podmore will be overheard this Thursday speaking about, among other things, their mutual love for the Tutshill Tornadoes, as well as Elphias' desire for more security, and how as such he will be moving into an as-yet unwarded home in Worcester. We are aware that Voldemort has spies within the Ministry; we are aware also that, as Elphias was instrumental in the capture of Leon Avery earlier this summer, he will be particularly watched. We are counting on the desire of Lord Voldemort's forces for reprisal. They will think to come upon Elphias unawares. We intend, in fact, to ambush them. I won't mince words - this will be a dangerous mission. I am looking for the more magically apt among us to set up anti-Apparation fields and other precautions around Elphias' decoy home, and I myself will be assisting in this measure.
